The firefighting is probably the most challenging and diverse profession known today. Imagine having to train to prepare yourself to cope with situations that range from structure fires to hazardous chemical spills, and almost any type of emergency in between. Combine this diversity with the fact these skills may be needed at any time of the day, seven days a week, in any kind of weather, and very often under potentially stressful and emotional circumstances, and it is evident that the job of a firefighter is one of the most personally rewarding.

Over the years, the Vienna Fire Department has evolved into a public safety agency providing highly technical and diverse services. Our community has come to rely on our department as the "first responder" not only to fires but motor vehicle accidents, medical emergencies, trauma accidents, electrical emergencies, environmental accidents, collapses, heart attacks and hazardous material spills.

We are here for two basic purposes. First is to save lives through the prompt rescue of persons threatened by fire, injury, illness, or other emergencies. Second is to protect the property of citizens in our town. Both these objectives are accomplished through education, training, pre-incident planning, more training, state of the art equipment, and more training.

The personal rewards and satisfaction each of us receives from fire service are often beyond description. The sense of accomplishment after controlling a fire is a feeling that not many people have ever experienced.

Men and women from many walks of life are volunteer firefighters. Volunteers include the self-employed, shift workers, tradespeople and professionals. They are all people who care about their community and want to be actively involved. So if you want to do something important for your community and are willing to take on a challenging job, come down to the fire station and talk to us.
